Servicing SMDs will no longer be a problem, as it has been in the past. Chip QuikTM will revolutionize surface mounted technology.

Present methods are expensive, unreliable and damaging to printed circuit boards and components due to excessive heat and mechanical strain.

Chip QuickTM announces the availability of its new removal kit. The kit contains a special removal alloy, a braid to be used for clean-up and a special liquid flux to be used with both alloy and braid. Contents of kit will remove 8-10 SMDs. Complete instructions are included.

The removal process is very simple. The only tools required are a soldering iron and a dental pick.

The technician applies special liquid flux to all leads of SMD to be removed. Then, with soldering iron, melts special alloy uniformly on all pins. (Temperature need not be much more than 300°F.) The iron is used to keep the alloy in a molten state long enough to react with the solder. Now the SMD can easily be lifted from the board with a puller or dental pick.

To clean up remains on PC board, use a Q-tip dipped in flux and a soldering iron to push large globs to unused section of board, let solidify and remove. Then use braid and flux for remaining solder alloy on contacts. Clean with solvent. You are now ready to install the new chip.

The removed SMD can be cleaned up with a heat gun and a natural bristle brush. If SMD is good, reuse it.
